The Pokémon Company International has designs that resemble a hate group. They are White Kyurem, Black Kyurem, and Zekrom. The company has been attempting to censor folks out there who are trying to stop this madness. The designs just need to change or get retired, that is all they need to do.

Perspectives: Binaries in Disruption was curated by Junior Colleen Boken as a part of the David Nord Award, which is given to proposals by Whitman Staff, Facility, or Students that engage in critical issues facing the the LGBTQ+/Queer community through various different ways. Perspectives, which was cosponsored in part by Daniel Forbes and Kynde Kiefel of the Sheehan Gallery (with deep gratitude), focused on the idea that Queer doesn't necessarily mean Queer and that the idea of being queer is always the most important aspect is ultimately false. Each Artist (each an Alum of Whitman) was asked these three questions along with a loan of art, which by complete accident ended up being a different medium for each artist. How do you see yourself? What does art allow you to express that other forms are unable to communicate? How can art be a force for change in the community? Ultimately the show was put on display in the Olin Breezeway (thank you Daniel and Kynde for allowing me to do so), thereby "disrupting" a space of travel. It was an overwhelming success and a major highlight of my Whitman, and ultimately Museum, career. Perspectives would never have occurred without the generous support of David Nord. Part of the class of 1983, he was a part of Phi Delta Theta and and ASWC president prior to graduating, with honors in political science. A leader and politically engaged individual, including time spent as a delegate for the democratic party in 1996, he emphasized the power of the individual to lead and show how queer voices matter in a time of great change for both the queer community at large and the international community as a whole. He went on to his Master’s degree in psychology from Antioch University and had a psychotherapy practice before becoming a full-time researcher and writer. He was the author of “Multiple Aids-Related Loss: A Handbook for Understanding and Surviving a Perpetual Fall”. In November 1999, David died of AIDS. However, he was able to attend the first showing of the award in 1996, interestingly the same year in which Colleen Boken was born.
